Friday's Flowers

How do you feel when you plant?   I love spending my time in the garden. After I finish a planting, I like to sit down, admire the flowers and watch how light filters through the spruce, cottonwood and birch, tickling the petals to sparkle with hues of blues and violets.  This year I’ve got a lot of pink, and yellow too.

Oh, how I wish our growing season were longer!  Summer in Alaska seems so rushed, really, just a few months for the flower plants (and me) to absorb  the warmth of the sun and the drink from the rain.

There is so much energy in a bloom. Some flowers seem to bloom overnight, some are much more gradual.

Deadnettle Lamium

Allium
Asiatic Black Out Lily
Pansy

Pin Cushion Flower Scabiosa

Helleborus
Yellow Archangel Lamiastrum
Mums and Daisies

I dare say that some of my perennials may not winter over, and I will begin again with the joy of planting, the anticipation during the growing, and the satisfaction of the bloom.

  2. More beautiful flowers! It seems that even though the blooming season seems rushed in Alaska, it is more spectacular than in other places as all of nature's glory is out at once!

  3. Bonita, I enjoyed reading your profile. It sounds like you have an interesting and full life! I am wondering how you like living in AK. We took an Alaskan cruise 2 summers ago and think it is one of the most beautiful places on God's earth!!! Your flowers are really pretty. I especially like the archangel. I plan to explore your blog a little more now. So glad you found me and I therefore found and visited you!
    Blessings, Beth

  4. I know just how you feel! I love planting in my garden! For me the bust time is in the fall. Fall and winter yield the prettiest gardens here in Az as we don't get more than a couple freezes during the season. Summers are just too hot for most plants other than native species. I'm glad you are enjoying yourself while it's warm. I can't even imagine what winter is like up there! Have a lovely week!

  6. How blessed you are to be able to truly appreciate the beauty of the planting...Sometimes living in such a tropical climate I forget how fleeting summer is in other places and therefore take my garden for granted.

    Thank you for the reminder.
